CRS004: Fundamental and Derived PQ

The heart of science is in the understanding of physical quantities that allows description of any event mathematically. These quantities, like length, mass, and time, are the building blocks of scientific exploration.

At the center of this understanding are fundamental units, the base of measurement. These unchanging units, such as the meter for length, the kilogram for mass, and the second for time, create a common language for scientists everywhere.

From these fundamentals come derived physical units, created from combinations of the basics. Velocity, for example, comes from the ratio of distance to time, forming a unit with its own special meaning.

Experiments are where these ideas shine. When measuring length, mass, and time, scientists use tools to unveil the mysteries of our world. The ruler and calliper measure length, the balance and scale gauge mass, and the clock marks the passage of time.
